Around the lake

Mainau and Reichenau, the islands of flowers and vegetables, are famous destinations in Lake Constance. The world-famous, opulent pilgrimage church of Birnau houses baroque angels within its church walls.
Unteruhldingen, with its almost Mediterranean-looking harbour, gives exotic animals a home in the reptile house and shows early life in great detail in the Uhldingen pile dwellings.
The imposing Salem Castle is also worth a visit, as is the Affenberg (Ape Mountain) near Salem with countless Barbary macaques in a huge outdoor enclosure.

The Euregio Lake Constance is also Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein – with the Swiss mountain Säntis and the breathtaking mountain railway, with the UNESCO World Heritage city of St. Gallen and one of the oldest monastery libraries in the world, the Abbey Library, with the architecturally charming Vorarlberg and Bregenzerwald, the renowned Seebühne and the famous Bregenzerwald.
